The Juniata County School District Wellness Committee will meet on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. in the district office conference room, 146 Weatherby Way, Mifflintown.

The Wellness Committee is to be comprised of, but not necessarily limited to, at least one School Board member, one district administrator, a district food service representative, student, a parent/guardian, a school health professional, a physical education teacher and a member of the public. Other members may include: teachers, school counselors, coaches, support staff, dieticians, representatives of local or county agencies, representatives of community organizations, food vendors, and other individuals chosen by the district. A goal is that committee membership will include representatives from each school building and reflect the diversity of the community.

The Wellness Committee serves as an advisory committee regarding student health issues and is responsible for developing, implementing, reviewing and updating a school wellness policy; reviews and considers evidence-based strategies and techniques in establishing goals for nutrition education and promotion, physical activity and other school-based activities that promote student wellness; and reviews local assessment to plan for future policy revisions and program changes.
