JCSD SPECIAL SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
A special meeting of the Juniata County School District Board of Directors will be held July 16, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. in the administrative office meeting room, 146 Weatherby Way, Mifflintown, PA. Action will be taken on items requiring action prior to the regularly scheduled August meeting.
2020-2021 SCHOOL REOPENING LETTER AND SURVEY
I hope this note finds all of our families healthy as our communities continue to open from the COVID 19 pandemic. Even with the continued openings, there are still concerns and uncertainties as we move towards the start of the 20-21 school year. I would like to assure our families, the school district is continuing to follow guidance that is coming out from a variety of governmental and scientific organizations. In order to provide our students with the most effective educational opportunities in the safest environment, the district has convened a task force to consider all available information and make recommendations for next year’s opening. This task force is meeting weekly and has a variety of members including school administration, teachers, and health care professionals. As the task force moves forward, additional members will be added to get input from the most informed and knowledgeable people available. With this in mind, the district would also like to get feedback and information from our school families. In order to do this, a survey has been developed and the information gathered will be considered as the task force completes its work. We encourage all families to complete the survey. If you have several children in the district, please fill out a survey for each child. This will allow us to consider possible differences needed for varying age groups.

Juniata County School District elementary school principals are requesting parents of children who will be enrolled in school for the first time this fall to register their children for school by contacting Polly Digon at the district’s administrative office via email at firstname.lastname@example.org; or by calling 717-436-2111, ext. 5002.
Kindergarten registration is open to any child who will be five years of age on or before September 1, 2020. To be eligible for first grade, a child must be six years of age on or before September 1, 2020. If parents do not feel their child is ready for kindergarten, they may elect to wait until the following year to register.
It is important that parents review the immunization status of their child, since children entering school for the first time are required to be immunized as follows: four doses of diphtheria and tetanus vaccine, with one dose administered on or after the child’s fourth birthday; four doses of polio vaccine, with one dose administered on or after the child’s fourth birthday; three doses of hepatitis B; two doses each of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine; and two doses of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or history of disease.
If all immunizations have not been completed, parents should contact their family doctor or clinic to have them completed. Children may be exempt from immunization requirements for medical, religious or strong philosophical objections.
ALL new student registrations can be completed at our District Office located at 146 Weatherby Way, Mifflintown, PA 17059 with Mrs. Polly Digon.
