Students are welcome to talk with me during the school day but should check with their teacher first, since I am often busy in other areas of the building and not in my office. Sometimes parents are first to reach out to let me know of worries and concerns. I can be contacted by parents via Class Dojo, email, or phone (email is best) to discuss your concerns or give direction when you or your family are in need of community supports or assistance (example: counseling, psychiatric or psychological evaluations, medication management, shelter services, food, clothing, transportation, etc.).

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS
Although the school psychologists have physical offices in specific buildings, they offer assessment and consultation services to students, families, and educators through a district-wide service delivery model. This means, for example, you may see the school psychologist from TJHS collaborating with student teams at JES. The school psychologists provide specific information about the evaluation processes for special education and gifted support services; connect students to in-school and community resources; serve on a number of school-wide and/or district-wide initiatives (e.g., Response to Intervention and Autism support service delivery); and assist students with the transition from preschool to school-age education.
The best way to contact the school psychologist if you do not see her in her office is via email or phone.

SAP (Student Assistance Program)
Juniata County School district offers SAP at the elementary and secondary level to help support students who may be experiencing challenges including alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and mental health issues which pose a barrier to a student’s success. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program is to help students overcome these barriers so that they may achieve, advance, and remain in school. The SAP team is comprised of teachers, administrators, school counselors, home and school visitors, nurses and other professionals such as probation, children and youth, and counselors. Safe2Say Something is a school safety tool that will save lives. Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late.
